New York Fashion Week has just ended and tomorrow we are going to London for some streetstyle and catwalk shots.

Despite a quite conservative and wearable approach, New York Fashion Week offered this season some amazing offbeat silhouettes. We mentioned earlier the ones proposed by Creatures of the Wind (see previous review) but have a look to Jeremy Scott and Marc Jacobs' collections. While the first brought us back to the nineties with a seventies accent and a powerful styling, the second created a controversial and fairy woman whose chunky proportions were dramatically enhanced by atomic hats (by Stephen Jones).

Color-wise, next fall will definitely be dominated by red, rust and orange. Ask Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, they will surely agree with us on that point… By the way, here goes our Trend alert on scarlet red and dresses, the stellar piece of the season: TREND ALERT.

The designers Shane Gabier & Chris Peters, fathers of the Creatures of the Wind presented their buzzing fall 2012 collection in New York under the Desmond Tutu Center's vaulted ceiling.

The Creatures transported us into a universe of faerie and whimsy surprisingly managing to keep us firmly anchored into the real world. Despite the hotchpotch of textures and patterns, the duo created highly wearable and chic pieces and silhouettes hipsters would easily introduce to their wardrobe.

The leather circle skirts and the bubblegum-pink cape were powerfully convincing, sweetened by mohair oversize knits. Accessories like the organic-patched shawl added a romantic touch to the collection which, even if somehow folksy was definitely modern. The looks were beautifully enhanced by gorgeous point-toed boots by the excellent Tabitha Simons

Creatures of the Wind brought some freshness to the NYFW scene with their enchanting presentation.

For Autumn/Winter 2012, Y-3 treks through the steppes of Central Asia, blending tradition and modernity for a fusion of styles and shapes inspired by nomadic culture. Shown in New York’s Soho district on Sunday, February 12, 2012, as part of New Yorkfashion week, Y-3’s collection took its audience on a wild and rugged journey from the future to the past, all in the essence ofYohji Yamamoto, the label’s designer. Y-3 explored the ways in which ancient nomadic tribes combine elements of traditional, ethnic dress with contemporary sport clothing—a look no doubt influenced by the presence of Western wanderers visiting the region. The result was an inspired take on winterwear, combining the futuristic sport style of adidas with a romantic vision: long, dramatic wool coats, sumptuous shearling jackets, nubby fleece knits, and fierce leopard prints. Models walked the runway to music from the Black Keys, Little Barrie, and the Derek Trucks Band while a front-row crowd of Idris Elba, Isabel Lucas, Anton Yelchin, Clemens Schick, Martina Codecasa, and Mary Charteris looked on.

The collection found its origins in the idea of a nomadic existence and the very basic human need for protection, comfort, and beauty. To wit, the clothing emphasized texture, color, and silhouette, from chunky fleece knit sweaters and oversize plush shorts to bold tones of claret and jade to billowing capes, coats, and ponchos. As always, Y-3 placed an emphasis on modularity, featuring zippered lapels on jackets, removable felt collars and cuffs on shirts, and Velcro coat pockets that can be shifted around at will.

“There is poetry and elegance to the way nomads dress,” Yamamoto said. “I want to capture that feeling and make it modern.”

Barcelona FW - February 2012 - 080 Barcelona Fashion · Winter edition. Plaça del Rei - in the heart of Barcelona's gothic quarter.

The local fashion week opened with a vain collection of underwear by TCN. The days went by, the collections followed one another without big surprises... 080 is fading away, losing its primary original concept of fashion platform for independant designers, slowly sliding towards a conventional, high street brands trade fair - Desigual, TCN and Mango were all 3 part of the fashion week calendar.

Fortunately, Alexis Reyna stood up (litteraly! have a look at the video) defending creativity and risk as the two core values of independant fashion design.

Fortunately, the jury did not miss the opportunity to ackowledge his talent. He won the Best collection Award.

Hurrah Alexis Reyna.

The newest Dior collection presented in Paris for the spring - summer  2012 season was not surprising nor avant-gardist but it was as always extremely elegant. Indeed the strength of these new outfits was elegance and retro feminity.

This is our selection.
